Overview

Machine Learning: a Conceptual Approach” offers a comprehensive introduction to the concepts, approaches and applications of machine learning algorithms, from the simple to the current state-of-the-art. This 650 page book covers 35 machine learning algorithms, one chapter for each, using a concise and conceptual approach. Each chapter also includes complete software examples, written in both Matlab and Python, that can be used as either a template or copied directly to reader projects

To make this book extra special, it is printed with a premium full-color gloss hardcover, and premium 93 opacity 60lb pages with full-color figures.

Notes

  • Every math example and exercise is new. While math examples tend to be very common, to the point of memorization, e.g., 2 x 2 = 4, all numerical examples in this new edition were generated using a pseudo-random number generator. This was changed so the reader does not become complacent with trivial problems or perceived or familiar “patterns.” Recent psychology research indicates that the reader is more likely to focus on the math task at hand if there is randomness in the numbers.

  • The original manuscript was unfriendly to colorblind readers; in particular red/green contrasts are troublesome. The new color palette uses orange/blue and red/blue contrast.

  • This book will be the first of its kind recorded to audio book and printed in Braille, with entirely new math characters in the Braille language, to help a significantly under-served community of blind researchers, engineers, and scientists.

  • To minimize waste and environmental impact in the printing process, this book is printed in the 8.5” x 5.5” format.
